How to Plan Your Vacation to Australia

Sexy Nerd is IMPOSSIBLE to plan a vacation with! He's the kind of person who says things like "Why are you stressing out about this? Just book something." and then complains about everything you consider booking.

I really wanted to include a stopover in Honolulu. It would break up the long flight from LAX to Sydney and only cost a little more than flying directly. With our 5 year wedding anniversary approaching, we had been hoping to revisit our ceremony location and eat our wedding cake (one of the benefits of using a cake that the bakery has in stock every day). Unfortunately, no matter how hard I planned, I just couldn't seem to create an itinerary that included Hawaii. Sexy Nerd kept saying to skip it. He said that a trip to Australia should focus 100% on Australia and that he didn't care about stopping in Honolulu.

So, I showed him an idea for an itinerary. "But I thought we were going to stop in Hawaii," he said, completely crushed.

"Think of the happy times," I remind myself. "The wife is always the #1 suspect when a husband goes missing."

Sexy Nerd recently had a day off. I left him with the task of coming up with a travel plan for our Australia trip. The only requirement was that airfare had to be $1500 or less per person, round trip.

When I returned from work, I asked if it was harder than he'd expected. "Nope," he replied smugly. He had easily planned our Australian airfare for just a little over $2000 each.

Sometimes, I just want to shake him.

Adopt a Black Cat

I would like to tell you something I learned at the Albuquerque Lucky Paws animal shelter yesterday. Did you know that, nationwide, black cats are the least likely to be adopted?

If you are a black cat, you are more likely to be put to sleep than any other cat in the shelter.

Now, I don't know about you, but I have known some remarkably lovable black cats. And they're CUTE! What is with the black kitty aversion? Society doesn't still think they're bad luck, right?

Right?
Luna from Sailor Moon would tell you that's preposterous!

Let's Get Organized!

The folks at BlogHer want to know:

What are your favorite resources (Products, Apps, Books, Websites, etc.) to help you get organized?

Hmmm...
My best tip for getting organized is one that I stole from work. Get yourself a box, like the ones paper comes in, and an assortment of folders to stand inside the box. I use this idea for everything, from keeping track of different bank accounts and credit cards to magazine subscriptions.

Some Fun Folder Ideas
Decorating Inspiration
Party Plans
Future Travel Itineraries
Books I Want to Read (whenever I finally have time)
Websites to Visit (same problem as before!)

I also created a Vitamins/Supplements folder, which is great because I can rip out an article on something I'd like to research further and possibly try, then take care of everything in one order the next time I'm ready to make a purchase from Drugstore.com (translation = easier to hit the minimum purchase required for free shipping!)

And now, because I have a strict rule here on LambAround that I cannot possibly have a post without any photos, here are some tulips in my dining room.

I never said the photo had to be relevant to the post.

How about you? Do you have any tips for keeping everything organized? Share! You can also join in BlogHer's main conversation. And, after all that fun socializing, be sure to enter BlogHer's Life Well Lived sweepstakes.

Aaaand, if you still have energy left, check out my other Life Well Lived post. It's all about getting sidetracked.

Albuquerque to AZ with Michelob ULTRA Light Cider

Sexy Nerd and I recently completed a road trip from Albuquerque, NM to Phoenix and Tucson. As you may remember, a certain someone hates staycations, so we had to get out of our own state. We loaded up the trusty Alero and hit the road. Our first stop was Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona.
Pretty, but not pretty enough to pull over?

Bam!

Chilling in the shade of the Crazy Old Man hat.

Petrified Forest petroglyphs.

Our theory is that ancient teenagers were bored (wouldn't you be??) and vandalized these rocks.

The park service and scientists everywhere have a different theory.

Our next road trip destination...

(duh nuh na nuh)

The Grand Canyon

Sexy Nerd is a bit of a worrywart and he refused to venture anywhere near the edge. Like, anywhere remotely close to it. This photo was taken with the lens zoomed waaay in and has been cropped so that I'm not off in the distance.

I was being cautious. See me using that tree for safety?

Now, if you're anywhere around the southwest, you may recall that it was incredibly, ridiculously, smack-you-in-the-face awesomely windy the Thursday and Friday of Memorial Day weekend. *Perfect* weather for the Grand Canyon.

The above photo ended with a gust of wind and Sexy Nerd frantically screaming "Get back here! You're going to get blown over the edge!"

It was magnificent, but...

the wind really was just too much fun to enjoy any longer.

Off we went to our hotel to enjoy some Michelob ULTRA Light Cider and to order pizza.

I wasn't sure how well this combination would work (the pizza and the cider beer - pizza with olives, banana peppers, salami, feta, pepperoni, onions, and steak always works!)

(As for those fungusy mushrooms Sexy Nerd insisted on...meh.)

The Michelob ULTRA Light Cider was actually perfect! I was a bit nervous that it would taste too sweet, but it isn't at all. It was exactly the kind of crisp, refreshing drink you would want after a day of exploring the desert. It reminds me of the fancy sparkling apple cider that people often serve at holidays and weddings, with the addition of alcohol. Brilliant!

Sexy Nerd, who prides himself on brewing his own beer, was reluctant to even try my Michelob ULTRA Light Cider. He said it went against everything home-brew stands for.

No pressure to try it, of course.

"This is commercial beer. It is not real beer."

"It looks nothing like my home-brew."

Apparently, a sign of a good beer is to sniff it??

"You're not going to post these photos on your blog, right? I have a beer brewing reputation to uphold."

Finally!

SEXY NERD LOVES MICHELOB ULTRA LIGHT CIDER!

As I type this blog post, Sexy Nerd is actually attempting to create a beer recipe that duplicates the Michelob ULTRA Light Cider. Really. I told him that it needs to be low calorie, just like the Michelob, but he's not sure that's feasible. He says he can match them on the hand picked apples part. Luckily for all you folks out there who aren't married to crazy Sexy Nerds, you can save yourself the time, expense, and mess (oh, the horrible, horrible mess of brewing your own beer! If only I could go back in time and stop this hobby of his!) and just buy this tasty beer at your local grocery store or Walmart.

I hope you'll take the time to visit the Michelob ULTRA Light Cider page on BlogHer.com. You can also click here to visit the Sponsor's site, which tipped me off to all the other yummy sounding varieties of Michelob ULTRA, including Dragon Fruit Peach and something called Lime Cactus. I'm hoping to find a variety pack soon that mixes Michelob's light cider with all their other flavors. These seem like the ideal summer drinks to pour into an icy glass and lounge on my porch swing with Sexy Nerd (who you just know will be drinking my Michelob ULTRAs too!)

Which favorite summer meal or activity do you think would go best with Michelob ULTRA Light Cider?

I'm thinking we should load up some sandwiches and Michelob ULTRA Light Cider and ride my fancy new bike to the park for a picnic.
