Sexy Nerd Made a Pig-O-Lantern!

Let's start today with some Halloween fun. I present: Kitchen Pig, the Jack-O-Lantern.

You know you're in for a fun Halloween when you come downstairs in the morning to find this drawn on the chalkboard door.

Kitchen Pig smiles because he sees the resemblance.

Boo? Oink? In this case, let's go with Boink.

Best in Show

I have a fun new idea for my blog. What would my readers like more, I thought, than being pitted against each other in a battle of posts? Every bloggers dream, right?

Here are the nominees from the recent Not "Baaad" Sundays Linky:

How can you win a highly coveted, prestigious (isn't it??) Best in Show award? Vote! Scroll back up - the voting box is on the top of this page. Here is a little something to help the nominees:

Voting will run until approximately 5pm on Saturday, 10/30 (Albuquerque time). Good luck and have fun, everyone!

After all, what could be more fun than being paraded around the blogosphere like a piece of meat?

Still No Nominees

Tonight I started working on a feature post for the wonderful bloggers who have been linking up to Not "Baaad" Sundays with LambAround. About halfway through, Sexy Nerd started yelling from upstairs that there was something funny on TV. He was laughing hysterically. I told him that I had to finish my post, but he kept insisting that I come upstairs. I did.

Did anyone watch CSI tonight? Apparently, teenagers making out at Walking with Dinosaurs cracks Sexy Nerd up.

I don't get it.

To be fair, I don't get anything about this spooky show. What is the appeal?

Too Soon to Prepare for Thanksgiving?

I might throw a dinner party just so I can use this centerpiece:

I would invite my no-nonsense, everything-must-be-just-so mum and be sure that she sits directly in front of this!

Who knew that Martha Stewart had such a fun sense of humor? Does anyone else have any quirky decorating ideas to share? I'd love to hear them!

The Office is on Fire!

I was all set to post about how completely filthy Sexy Nerd's office is, but noticed an even more disturbing problem while taking photos. See if you spot it:

Although mailbox-decor does strike me as kinda odd, it's not the mailbox itself I'm referring to.

Noticing a pattern here yet?

Sexy Nerd made that silver thingy back in school. What is it? No clue.

You may think the unusual thing is putting your hats next to a bag of garbage (ummm...is that sanitary?) but there's more to this photo than just a poor storage choice.

Do all grown men collect Hot Wheels? Is this normal?? It's not the point I'm trying to make, but I would love to know.

Love the paint job?

If I didn't know Sexy Nerd better, I'd swear he was flaming (HA! My only cheesy/stupid joke of the week, I promise!)

Sweet Carrot Pancakes with Marshmallow Creme

Despite all the carrots, I wouldn't exactly call this recipe healthy. It sure is yummy though! This would be a fun breakfast to have on Easter.

First, shred approximately 5 carrots in a food processor. You should end up with 2 cups of shredded carrot. Put this into a large bowl.

Welcome to another Not "Baaad" Sundays with LambAround Linky Party! I know what you're thinking. There are already a zillion blog hops out there, Lamb! What makes yours so special? I'll tell you what makes mine special. 2 things!

1. This Linky is open to all posts that you are proud of. Did you recently post about a great decorating project, craft, or recipe? That's wonderful if you did, but just fine if you didn't. I just want you to link to a post or posts you are proud of.

2. Do you ever find yourself trying not to duplicate posts on blog hops but aren't quite sure what you posted the previous weeks? Problem solved! The Linky from today will be back, making it easy to see what you've already posted and giving you another chance to visit any great posts you may have missed!

THE RULES (so serious!)
  1. Please link directly to your post, not just your general blog, and include a post-related photo.
  2. You don't want to be the grump at the party who doesn't mingle, so please visit at least two other party guests and let them know you found them through LambAround. I saw a lot of these comments while browsing through the entries this week. Thank you so much to everyone who plays nice! :)
Easy peasy!

And, of course, I'd love it if you post the Not "Baaad" Sundays button.

Lamb Monkeys Around

One of my all time favorite blogs is The Spohrs are Multiplying. Inspired by Heather's recent post, Tore a New One, I had a pathetic (I truly was!) childhood story of my own to tell. Here is what I wrote to Heather:

I don’t think this quite tops your hilarious butt injury, (laughing WITH you, not at you, of course!) but my childhood accident also involves the monkey bars. I was in 2nd grade and swinging from bar to bar on the school playground, all alone because my best friend hadn’t come to school.

When I was done playing, I looked down and saw a HUGE blister on my palm. How huge? Look at your hand. My entire palm was a blister! I knew I needed to go to the nurse, but I was soooooo shy and afraid to go. Instead, I spent the rest of lunch wandering around the playground, kinda dazed and jittery and wondering what to do.

Eventually, a group of little girls took me to the nurse. Thank goodness for second-graders with a motherly instinct!

I don't have a 2nd grade photo to share, so a baby photo will have to do for this post. Oh, the scaredy cat this little girl would grow up to be!

I Should Have Known Better

The other afternoon, I was enjoying some quiet time alone. I had my pajamas on (not the type to wear your pajamas in the middle of the day? You're working too hard!) and was reading a book in my office. The ceiling fan was set to the lowest speed. Sexy Nerd peeked in through the doorway to ask if I wanted to come to Lowes with him. Nope, I was perfectly happy just being lazy. As he left, I made my big mistake.

Can you turn the fan up for me? I asked, truly embracing my laziness. He did.

Then, he noticed that the fan wiggled slightly. We have lived in this house for over 3 years and I have never noticed anything wrong with the fan. Of course, Sexy Nerd didn't think a wobbly fan was anything to take lightly.

That's going to vibrate right off the ceiling and kill someone, he said, completely serious (to which I thought, seriously!?) This is the part of my story where I was forced to leave my office (too dangerous!) while Sexy Nerd took the entire fan down.

Sexy Nerd has no respect for a lazy, pajama-wearing afternoon.

$3 Dining Room Chairs

Do you ever sit down to write and say "Noooooo, I don't want to blog today!" That's me right now. Since LambAround is just for fun, I'm going to be lazy and go bake something with pumpkin instead (we have sooooo much pumpkin!) For now, here is a post rerun. That's allowed, right?

Sexy Nerd and I have been looking for new chairs for a while. My old Ashley Furniture glass dining table and metal chairs from college just weren't right in our new house. However, as the old dining set cost $200 for the table and 4 chairs, I was having trouble justifying $100 or so per chair for replacements. So, the glass table is now being used as a desk in my office, Sexy Nerd refinished an old dining room table to match our style, and the old chairs received a much-needed update, courtesy of a $3 can of burgundy spray paint (which looks pink when photographed, for some reason).

Now to find cheap upholstery fabric that looks awesome!

And learn how to reupholster a chair!

And sew more of that upholstery fabric into matching curtains! And sand/paint those yucky cabinet doors! And rearrange all the furniture! And find 2 more chairs that will look good with these because we want to seat 6! And build a window seat in the dining room!

Ah, good times.

Not "Baaad" Sundays #6

Welcome to another Not "Baaad" Sundays with LambAround Linky Party! I know what you're thinking. There are already a zillion blog hops out there, Lamb! What makes yours so special? I'll tell you what makes mine special. 2 things!

1. This Linky is open to all posts that you are proud of. Did you recently post about a great decorating project, craft, or recipe? That's wonderful if you did, but just fine if you didn't. I just want you to link to a post or posts you are proud of.

The Linky from today will be back, making it easy to see what you've already posted and giving you another chance to visit any great posts you may have missed!

I visited all the blogs that linked up last week and have a few awards for the talented bloggers to choose from:

Who are the lucky ducks who can take an award? Take a look:

Thrift Store Decor Junkie rescued an old, unloved coffee table.

Perler VooDoo blew my mind by recreating Starry Night out of those teenie tiny beads that you set with an iron. Are you kidding me?? Amazing!

Just Between Friends came up with a pretty way to organize ribbon.

Craftily Ever After taught everyone how to make a fun, sparkly shadow box.

Inside BruCrew Life shared how to make a french fry box template that can be used to make unique gift packaging.

The Spare Time Continuum threw a Dog Party (which, to Pica and Biscuit's disappointment, was actually a dog-themed party for people)

Gwenny Penny must have known she had a featured blogger spot in the bag when she titled her post "Meet Biscuit".

HoneyScrap crocheted a cupcake (which is also a purse!)

Murphy's Law...Only Worse turned a few ordinary terra cotta pots into an adorable scarecrow windchime.

It is what it is had my attention with the title of her post: An Army of Monsters!

Congratulations to all my featured bloggers! Choose your favorite award from above and display it proudly. Now, on to this weekend's Linky:

THE RULES (so serious!)
  1. Please link directly to your post, not just your general blog, and include a post-related photo.

Easy peasy!

And, of course, feel free to post the Not "Baaad" Sundays button. It's not required for linking up, but if I can't find it, I can't feature you next week (okay, technically I could feature you, but I won't!)

Now, get out there and mingle!

The Crayola Crayon Incident

After reading about my candy bar and dishwasher disasters, Carrie at A Chocolate-Covered To Do List wrote:

Her next trick: frying the microwave!  Please tell me that you have a microwave story?

I'm sorry but I don't have a microwave story. Sure, I've melted my fair share of plastic bowls by forgetfully leaving a metal spoon inside. Really, who hasn't? This comment did remind me of another disastrous time I tried to do something nice though.

I was in middle school and my family was preparing to move from San Jose, CA to Albuquerque, NM. Our house was spotless because my parents were getting ready to put it on the market (the value of homes in the Bay Area skyrocketed a few months after they sold the house, but that's a story for another day). Home by myself, I was wasting the afternoon reading magazines and came across an idea for something nice to do for my mom. The magazine (American Girl, I think) suggested that I melt down my old crayons and pour them into heart-shaped molds.

I had heart-shaped molds! I gathered up all my old crayons, peeled off the paper wrappers, and put them in a pan on the stove. The magazine said to set the stove to low. I did.

But nothing happened.

I waited a little longer. I had my heart-shaped molds all ready to go and kept waiting for the crayons to melt. I stirred the pot of crayons, hoping to speed up the process, but even the ones on the bottom were barely becoming soft. Outside, I could hear the ice cream truck a few streets away. I wanted to go buy some ice cream but didn't want to leave the crayons unattended. I didn't think it was going to take so long! My mom would be home soon and the entire point of melting the crayons into hearts was that it be a surprise.

So, I cranked up the heat.

It was still taking forever. When I heard the ice cream truck arrive on my street, I went outside. It had been so long and nothing had happened with the crayons. I didn't think anything of stepping away from the stove for just a minute.

This, of course, is the OOPS! part of my story.

You wouldn't think that crayons would go from being completely solid to being melted, boiling, and spewing hot drops of wax on every surface in only a matter of minutes, right? The wax was EVERYWHERE! Little dots of Jungle Green and Robin's Egg Blue were on the cabinet doors, the floor, the fridge, and even the ceiling. And it was still bubbling, spitting out more and more colored spots every second. I held my ice cream bar in my mouth (to protect it from the wax, of course) and ran to turn off the stove, but was much too big of a wimp not to turn back from the hot wax flying at me.

I ended up standing at the edge of the kitchen, waiting for the crayon downpour to subside and enjoying my ice cream bar, before turning off the heat. By the time the last drop of Vivid Violet left the pan, our kitchen looked like The Cat in the Hat had stopped by. And just in time to put the house on the market.

I remember wishing at the time that it hadn't happened, but also being well aware that I would not get in trouble. After all, my plan had been to make heart-shaped crayons for my mom as a sweet surprise.

How do you think that played out for me?

It's probably best to just keep me out of here altogether.

Oooooh, ICKY!

A moment ago, I was lounging around lazily in my pajamas, reading American Baby magazine (no further comment on that).Suddenly, my leg was itchy. The itchiness moved. I glanced down and saw this:

Not that icky, you think? Not even crawling up your leg?? Well, perhaps this will convince you:

Blech!

Another Flower Delivery Mystery?

Remember my Flower Delivery Mystery from a while back? Well, much to Sexy Nerd's horror, my secret admirer struck again, this time at my work!

OH NO, Sexy Nerd!

Somebody loves me.

Coming home with a big bouquet of flowers was Sexy Nerd's worst nightmare. The good news? The flowers were actually from my boss (Gotcha!) I did tell the little "secret admirer" story  to mess with Sexy Nerd when I got home though. Come on, you know you would have too.

My flowers also came with a card.

A few weeks ago, I posted a comment on my Not "Baaad" Sundays Linky Party that my boss wanted me to get her website to the top of Google. Problem? I had no idea how to do that! Lots of online study and time later though, we are the #2 result (and a word of warning to result #1 - you're going down, biyotch!)

After learning that the flowers were actually a good thing, Sexy Nerd went from this:

Ready to kick some secret admirer butt.
To this:
Isn't he silly?
 And this:
Very silly!

Who knows when/if I'll ever get flowers again, (hint, hint, flower-sending mystery stalker, whoever you are)(honestly, I suspect it was the loser mentioned in my Mom Sexy Prom post) so for now, let's all enjoy the flowery goodness.
