Sexy Nerd Made a Pig-O-Lantern!

Let's start today with some Halloween fun. I present: Kitchen Pig, the Jack-O-Lantern. You know you're in for a fun Halloween when you come downstairs in the morning to find this drawn on the chalkboard door. Kitchen Pig smiles because he sees the resemblance. Boo? Oink? In this case, let's go with Boink.

Best in Show

I have a fun new idea for my blog. What would my readers like more , I thought, than being pitted against each other in a battle of posts? Every bloggers dream, right? Here are the nominees from the recent Not "Baaad" Sundays Linky:   A Little Bit of Everything A Southern Belle with Northern Roots AmiEggs Craftily Ever After  JunkDog Design Pampers & Pinot What Allie's Making Now The Dating Divas How can you win a highly coveted, prestigious (isn't it??) Best in Show award? Vote! Scroll back up - the voting box is on the top of this page. Here is a little something to help the nominees: Voting will run until approximately 5pm on Saturday, 10/30 (Albuquerque time). Good luck and have fun, everyone! After all, what could be more fun than being paraded around the blogosphere like a piece of meat?

Still No Nominees

Tonight I started working on a feature post for the wonderful bloggers who have been linking up to Not "Baaad" Sundays with LambAround. About halfway through, Sexy Nerd started yelling from upstairs that there was something funny on TV. He was laughing hysterically. I told him that I had to finish my post, but he kept insisting that I come upstairs. I did. Did anyone watch CSI tonight? Apparently, teenagers making out at Walking with Dinosaurs cracks Sexy Nerd up. I don't get it.   To be fair, I don't get anything about this spooky show. What is the appeal?

Too Soon to Prepare for Thanksgiving?

I might throw a dinner party just so I can use this centerpiece: I would invite my no-nonsense, everything-must-be-just-so mum and be sure that she sits directly in front of this! Who knew that Martha Stewart had such a fun sense of humor? Does anyone else have any quirky decorating ideas to share? I'd love to hear them!

The Office is on Fire!

I was all set to post about how completely filthy Sexy Nerd's office is, but noticed an even more disturbing problem while taking photos. See if you spot it: Although mailbox-decor does strike me as kinda odd, it's not the mailbox itself I'm referring to. Noticing a pattern here yet?  Sexy Nerd made that silver thingy back in school. What is it? No clue. You may think the unusual thing is putting your hats next to a bag of garbage (ummm...is that sanitary?) but there's more to this photo than just a poor storage choice. Do all grown men collect Hot Wheels? Is this normal?? It's not the point I'm trying to make, but I would love to know. Love the paint job? If I didn't know Sexy Nerd better, I'd swear he was flaming (HA! My only cheesy/stupid joke of the week, I promise!)

Sweet Carrot Pancakes with Marshmallow Creme Recipe

Despite all the carrots, I wouldn't exactly call this recipe healthy. It sure is yummy though! This would be a fun breakfast to have on Easter or to serve to company at a spring brunch. First, shred approximately 5 carrots in a food processor. You should end up with 2 cups of shredded carrot . Put this into a large bowl. Mix in 1 egg, 1 cup of milk , (any kind will work) 1 Tbs of vanilla, 2 Tbs of apple sauce , and 1/4 of a cup of brown sugar . In fact, add a little less than 1/4 of a cup. These are going to be sweet enough without going crazy with sugar, (I assure you that this is the only time I will ever, EVER say not to go crazy with sugar!) Back to your food processor. Use it to finely chop 8-10 macadamia nuts . No macadamia nuts? Sounds like it's time for a visit to Hawaii. Until then though, other nuts, like walnuts or pecans, should work just fine. Mix the chopped nuts in with the other ingredients. Now it's time to add some dry ingredients. Mix in 2 ts

Lamb Monkeys Around

One of my all time favorite blogs is The Spohrs are Multiplying. Inspired by Heather's recent post, Tore a New One , I had a pathetic (I truly was!) childhood story of my own to tell. Here is what I wrote to Heather: I don’t think this quite tops your hilarious butt injury, (laughing WITH you, not at you, of course!) but my childhood accident also involves the monkey bars. I was in 2nd grade and swinging from bar to bar on the school playground, all alone because my best friend hadn’t come to school. When I was done playing, I looked down and saw a HUGE blister on my palm. How huge? Look at your hand. My entire palm was a blister! I knew I needed to go to the nurse, but I was soooooo shy and afraid to go. Instead, I spent the rest of lunch wandering around the playground, kinda dazed and jittery and wondering what to do. Eventually, a group of little girls took me to the nurse. Thank goodness for second-graders with a motherly instinct!  I don't have a 2nd grade photo t

I Should Have Known Better

The other afternoon, I was enjoying some quiet time alone. I had my pajamas on (not the type to wear your pajamas in the middle of the day? You're working too hard!) and was reading a book in my office. The ceiling fan was set to the lowest speed. Sexy Nerd peeked in through the doorway to ask if I wanted to come to Lowes with him. Nope, I was perfectly happy just being lazy. As he left, I made my big mistake. Can you turn the fan up for me? I asked, truly embracing my laziness. He did. Then, he noticed that the fan wiggled slightly. We have lived in this house for over 3 years and I have never noticed anything wrong with the fan. Of course, Sexy Nerd didn't think a wobbly fan was anything to take lightly. That's going to vibrate right off the ceiling and kill someone, he said, completely serious (to which I thought, seriously!? ) This is the part of my story where I was forced to leave my office (too dangerous!) while Sexy Nerd took the entire fan down. $3 Dining Room Chairs Before & After

You know when you sit down to write and say, "Noooo, I don't want to blog today!" That's me right now. Since this site is supposed to be fun (for you and for me!), I'm going to be lazy and go bake something with pumpkin instead.  For now, here is a post rerun. That's allowed, right? ***** Sexy Nerd and I have been looking for new chairs for a while. My old Ashley Furniture glass dining table and metal chairs from college just weren't right in our new house . However, as the old dining set cost $200 for the table and 4 chairs, I was having trouble justifying $100 or so per chair for replacements.  So, the glass table is now being used as a desk in my office, Sexy Nerd refinished an old dining room table to match our style, and the old chairs received a much-needed update, courtesy of a $3 can of burgundy spray paint...which looks pink when photographed, for some reason. Just use your imagination and pretend it's burgundy. Now to find
